Orange Apple Festival

Come and celebrate the Orange District's rich history of being an apple growing region. The inaugural Orange Apple Festival featuring all things apples will run from Friday May 9 to Sunday May 11, 2014.

Celebrate all things Apples - our region, its history, as an orchard area and the fruit itself.

FRIDAY 9th MAY

School Activities

  • Dress up Day – wear ‘Apple Colours’ - red or green to school.
  • Apple Art – capture an apple in paint, ink, film to display @ Orange Region Farmers Market
  • Apple Pie Drive – fundraise for your school in association with Roberts Bakery
  • 11am The BIG Crunch with children across the district all munching on apples
  • Hire A Bike @ the Lake A great way to spend a morning, an afternoon, a day in the scenic grounds of Lake Canobolas in the heart of the Towac - the apple orchard district. Available from The Lakeside Cafe 8.30am – 5.30pm $16 per hour Enquiries: 0404 987 942 or via our facebook page
  • Visits from Growers, Producers, Chefs & Cooks to talk apples & count down the Big Crunch
  • Get the Juice with Appledale – organise juice for your school direct from the growers
  • ‘Eat Your History’ – The Cook & the Curator’ food blogger & gastronome Jacqui Newling conducts food discussions with hospitality students.
  • Apple Trees For Sale – Millthorpe Garden Nursery will have a variety of apple trees (both dwarf and standard sizes) available for purchase at  the market. Orders taken or pick up on the day. Heritage Apple Walk at Borrodell on the Mount

Meet local orchardist Borry Gartrell, take a wonder through the orchard and learn about ‘long lost’ apple varieties, grab some apples & a sip of cider.

Apples on Canvas Class @ Raw Canvas

Location: Northcourt, in the open space behind the Orange Art Gallery & Library.

Meet the orchardists & buy direct from the growers. You’ll be able to taste & try the apple in all its forms – we’ll showcase apple pies, pastries, slices, sweet treats, toffee apples, fresh apple juice, a range of ciders, apple jams & jellies.

Bring the family to this year’s Agricultural Show staged by the Orange Show Society at the Orange Showground. View the produce displays (this year includes an apple display), see the animals, purchase from stallholders, and enjoy rides, wood chopping, fireworks and more.

Orchard & Packing Shed Tour

Small Acres stars at Union Bank

Union Bank Wine Bar & Dining teams up with their favourite local cider star Small Acres Cyder to create some special food & cider matches. Paddling ‘Ap-peal’ Lake Canobolas

If you’ve ever wanted to try Dragon Boating now here’s your chance. The Pinnacle Paddlers and the Colour City Dragons are appealing to all ages to come out to the lake and ‘put your toe in the water’ – give it a go - you’ll find it appealing!

BYO Bike Skills Day ... Granny Smith visits the Forest.

Join the Central West Off Road Bicycle Club (CWORBC) for a morning off road in the Kinross Forest for a skills session followed by some short guided rides around the forest trails.
